Artificial sweeteners linked with a 13% higher risk of cancer
Nearly half of United States adults consume artificial sweeteners in a wide range of foods and beverages, as alternatives to added sugars.
A large new observational study published in PLOS MEDICINE found a 13% higher risk of cancer in general, with the highest likelihood of developing breast cancer and cancers related to obesity, for people consuming large quantities of artificial sweeteners, particularly aspartame and acesulfame-K.

Real GDP per capita, generosity, perceptions of corruption, freedom to make life choices, social support, and life expectancy are some of the factors evaluated when determining the rankings, with each country scoring on a 10-point scale.
For the past four years, the top spot has been claimed by Finland.
