Why: Required for travelers ≥9 months old arriving from countries with risk for YF virus transmission; this includes >12-hour airport transits or layovers in countries with risk for YF virus transmission.
Thus, you need to take this vaccine when travelling to most African countries as well as South America.
How: It’s a single shot dose in the arm that gives life long immunity.

In Mumbai, at JJ hospital, go to OPD 37 on 2nd floor from Monday to Friday between 9am-12pm. No prior appts given. It’s on a first cum first served basis.
Since it’s a 10 dose vial , they need people in multiples of 10. Those remaining may have to visit again. Ensure to reach before 9am for a best chance to get vaccinated on same day. A consent form has to be filled.
Once the shot is given, it takes quite sometime to get the vaccine certificate.
KEM hospital is another option that can be visited. Vaccine is given between 1.30-3 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays in OPD 10, first floor, new OPD bldg.
It’s a 6-dose and 2-dose vial here. So, the probability of a successful vaccination is much higher. Also, the certificate is handed over immediately after the shot.
Cost: ₹300
Validity of certificate: Lifetime.
But the validity starts 10 days after the date of vaccination. You can travel immediately after the dose but if you return before 10 days of the vaccination date, you will be quarantined by the health authorities in India.
Side effects: Minimal side effects like fever, body ache, for which paracetamol can be taken.
Avoid taking vaccine if you have egg allergy or if you are sick during that period.
If over 60yrs of age, a doctor's fitness certificate for taking the vaccine will be needed.
Make sure to get your vaccine at a BMC center such as KEMH for a faster, more efficient experience, and a greater chance of receiving your vaccination on the very same day!
