is one of the best for diving at Lakshadweep. There is a big lagoon area that is very calm and good for the initial Open Water scuba training. The dive sites have a varied topography.
The Grand Canyon for deep diving,
Little canyon for ’city’ diving (narrow lanes and traffic jams), Shallow point for multiple craters and triggerfish,
Bangaram reef for the corals
and Manta point for the rare Manta ray.
The visibility overall is excellent at 15-20 m and not much of currents. Underwater temperatures are generally between 27-30°C.
There is lots of fish life, mainly the smaller ones. Turtles,
Lionfish,
Moray eels,
Scorpion fish,
Sting rays, and occasional Sharks are the ones to look out for.
We also did catch a fleeting and rare glimpse of the Sailfish and a small pod of dolphins on the surface.
The dive sites are 45 mins-1 hr away from shore. The boats sanctioned by the Govt are not actually dive boats and thus are slow to reach. It could get a little chaotic when a large group is diving together. If scuba diving has to be promoted in this region, the Govt attitude has to change dramatically. Our dive group
was ably headed by Orca Dive from Mumbai and with the local team from Bangaram Island Resort, the dives were managed very smoothly.
